2009-2010 Coaching Staff


 

 
Mike Shepard: Head Football Coach
 

Mike Shepard started coaching football and track in 1983 at Liberty High School in the Issaquah District. Coach Shep (as the players know him) played two seasons at Western Washington University as a Linebacker and safety and then transferred to the UW where graduated in 1985.  Coach Shepard has been with the Kent School District since 1986 and has taught at KL since it opened in 1997.  Prior to 1997, he coached at Kentridge working with linebackers and defensive line. At Kentlake he  Defensive Coordinator from 1997-2003, in 2003 he moved over to the offensive line, and he took over as head coach three years ago from Mark Torgerson.  He currently teaches Psychology, AP Government and Upper level History. His teams have improved every year under his leadership with an overall record of 10-20. This upcoming season is full of promise for more to come.

 

 


Nick Bartoli: Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers
 

Nick has been teaching and coaching for 18 years in the Kent School District. The first 10 years teaching and 5 years of coaching were at Meridian Junior High. The next 4 years I was the Co-Defensive Coordinator at Kentridge High School. The last 8 years he has been teaching and coaching at Kentlake High School.

 

 

Chris Arrington: Freshman/Wide Receivers/Defensive Backs

Chris Arrington is entering his 8th year coaching football, and 4th year coaching for the Falcons. Coach Arrington has a Communications Degree from the University of Washington and a Master’s In Teaching Degree from City University. He teaches Health and Fitness, as well as Mathematics, at Cedar Heights Middle School. He married his beautiful wife Christina on November 15th, 2008. This upcoming season he will be coaching Wide Receivers, Defensive Backs, and the freshman team.

 

 
Mark Gunderson:
 
Mark was an all league High School Football player at Sumner High School and a two time All Northwest Conference Corner at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma.  It is his 5th season coaching High School Football, his second year at Kentlake.  He teaches Health and PE at Kentlake and absolutely loves it!  He is married to his AWESOME wife Ashley of almost 2 years.  They love skiing (water and snow) and being around family and friendsl.

 

Kevin Huckins:

 

2009 will be Kevin's 9TH year as a volunteer coach at Kentlake.  He grew up in Renton (Linbergh High Class of 78).  He played his college football at Eastern Washington University where he graduated in 1982.  His son chris is a pilot in the Airforce and his daughter Lisa will graduate from Western Washington University in May 2010.  He became a Grandpa in April of 2009.


 

Jeff Martin:

Jeff is strarting his 6th at Kentlake.  He has coached 3 years as the Freshman and Line coach.   He has also coached the Freshman basbell team for 3 years and the JV basketball team for 5 years here at Kentlake.  Everyone at Kentlake knows him as Coach "Marty".

 


Perry Straus:

 

Perry is starting his 3rd year as a volunteer coach. Perry coaches the TE’s along with anything else coach Shepard needs him to do.

Perry played high school football at Foster High in Tukwila, WA. Played in the summer passing league at Palomar Jr. College in Vista, CA and  in 92’-94’ played 3 years as a quarterback in the NWFL Semi-Pro Football League in Washington State.

He also coached for 4 years for Maple Valley Raiders Jr. football, and 1 year as QB coach for Cedar Heights Middle School before coaching at Kentlake.

Perry has had 2 daughters who graduated from Kentlake, Tiffany in 2000. Casandra in 2006. Derek is a 3 yr varsity letterman who will graduate this year, Alex (Bones) is a 1st year varsity letterman will be a Jr. this season and Erin who will be entering 7th grade at Cedar Heights Middle School.

His wife Debbie is a member of the Kent School District Board.  They have been married for 21 years.

 


 

Jason Wilmot:

 

Jason Wilmot is a volunteer coach.  He is an alumni of Kentlake Football and played college football at Western Washington University as well as Kansas Wesleyan University.  His first year of coaching at Kentlake was in 2008.

 


Jeremy Williams:

Jeremy started coaching football in 1991 at South Bend High School as the line coach for his old high schools 8 man football team. He then Coached the Bellingham Red Raiders in 1996 before getting a job and moving to the Kent School District. Once in Kent, Jeremy coached at Sequoia Junior High for 5 years before getting a job at Kentlake. This is Jeremy’s 4th season coaching the OLB’s and Special Teams with the Falcons and he is excited about the upcoming season.
